48. London - Home away from home

Back in London for a few days before we head off to Swindon for our next sit.

One place I wanted to visit was Abbey Road Studios and the famous Abbey Road crossing. We, and many others, patiently lined up to have our picture taken. The poor drivers that drive through daily constantly have to stop for pesky tourists playing out lifelong dreams to cross this road!

And the recording studio used by the Beatles as well as hundreds of other artists.

On one of our trips on the Underground Railway, we came across the famous Baker Street. Home to Sherlock Holmes and the Gerry Rafferty classic song.

Not too far away from Abbey Road is Hampstead Heath which is home to a beautiful parkland. It ended up being quite warm this day.

Back at Clapham, I was wondering why the grass was so high in parts of the Clapham Common Park until I came across this sign.

Nice work Lambeth Council!

We also dropped in on the Greenwich Observatory in London where GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is the world's reference point for time zones.

And some more info

Greenwich Village was nice too.

The Cutty Sark is on display on the edge of the River Thames in Greenwich.

The Cutty Sark is 150 years old and takes its name from a poem by Robert Burns called Tam O’Shanter. It refers to a short nightie worn by one of the main characters in the poem, a young, attractive witch called Nannie.

Cutty Sark was built for the China tea trade but would carry a vast array of cargoes and carried almost 10 million lbs of tea between 1870 and 1877 before finding its calling in the Australian wool trade. It would transport more than 45,000 bales in its career.
