70. Kaye's place in Caerphilly and St David's Pembrokshire - Wales
We arrived at Kaye's place in Caerphilly and were warmly welcomed by her good self and Ben, the beautiful rescue doggy from Romania.
Penny did a great job of getting us there and the highways were a nice smooth ride. A must when in Wales is to sample Welsh Cakes and no better way to have them is when they're homemade by an expert.
Kaye in the kitchen making the delicious Welsh Cakes.
The Cakes are actually 'baked' on a cooktop using a traditional cast iron plate
And the result. Very yummy indeed!
And the master chef explains the process
Having seen the weather forecast for the next few days bringing high winds and rain, we decided to drive to St Davids, situated on the west coast of Wales. The countryside along the way was beautiful and green and the roads were easy to drive. The village still had many old buildings and the number of boutique shops made it a very interesting place.
We drove out to the west coast beach where there is a chapel dedicated to St David and his mother St Non. There are also remains of a previous chapel where St David was allegedly born.
St Non's Chapel built in 1934 from stones of the original chapel.
Remains of the original chapel built around the 6th century
A large stone standing in the corner of the ruined chapel, inscribed with a cross within a circle, is known as St Non's Cross. The stone was found in the same field as the chapel and is either a grave or an altar stone.
This is considered to be one of the most sacred wells in Wales, as the water is believed by some to have miraculous healing powers. The well is said to have sprung up when St David was born, and continued to be visited frequently by Christians even after the Protestant Reformation. We drank the water. It was pure and had a sweetness to it.
The location of the chapels is right on the western coast of Wales in Pembrokeshire
A stunning cathedral and ruins of an abbey sits just outside the village of St David's.
The detail of the glasswork was incredible.

We said thank you and goodbye to Kaye for generously putting us up for the time in Wales. From here we drive back to London to stay at Daniel and Ellen's before heading off to Tenterden in southeast England for a 10-day sit.
Paul, I'm absolutely disappointed that Paula didn't make the blog 😂🤣😂. It was lovely seeing you both xxx
ReplyDeleteI want to interview Paula! Thanks again for having us!
DeletePaul and Max, after drinking the water, have you noticed the fountain of youth within yourselves? Great photos, stories love it..
