71. London - Catchup with Pierre

Driving back from Wales took a while as the main freeway was closed for a few miles. Penny went well and my confidence in driving is improving in dealing with London traffic. We're waiting for Max to be issued a UK driver's license before she can drive here.

We stayed at Chez Daniel and Ellen and after a few days, I drove Max to the next pet sit as I needed to come back to help Daniel and Ellen pack as they were moving to Sevenoaks, a lovely leafy village in the southeast of England. Even though they'll be living further out of London, the trains are fast and efficient and don't add any significant time to commute to and from work.

The drive to and from Tenterden made me aware of how narrow some of the country roads are in the rural areas. Google Maps wanted to give me the quickest routes however, it incorporated some of the narrowest roads I have ever encountered and I wondered how two cars could pass at the same time. Well, they can't... in a lot of places. I soon got used to the system the locals use where one car stops and backs up to the nearest driveway or slightly wider sections of road and allows the other to come through. I must say I find nearly all English drivers to be calm, polite and courteous, even in London.

It was good to see brother Pierre in London. He's been on a 'Carpe Diem' trip to many European countries as well as England and Wales.  It was good to see him living in the moment. Here we are at Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles recorded their famous album.

Of course, the bro had to do the crossing! One more item off his bucket list!

Then, a well-deserved bucket of coffee!

We then ventured to Clapham to see Daniel.

And made time for a quick Guinness! (We'd already drunk them)

Daniel and Ellen's move was well-planned and went like clockwork. From there, I drove back to Tenterden where Max has been looking after the two doggies. I'll go into detail on the sit on the next post. All I'll say for now is that's the place is a beauty!

  1. Another tip for the windy roads Paul, is when nearing a sharp bend, one toot of the horn will alert any driver, approaching from the opposite direction, that there's another motorist nearby. I'm glad you and Pierre got to meet up.
