103. Fenit and surrounding areas- Kerry - Republic of Ireland

We arrived at our accommodation relieved it is as good as the write up. The next few photos were taken on and at the end of our street

Now it is said there is a ghost of Barrow Round Castle. It is the ghost of Geoffrey de Clahuill thought to be the original 14th century inhabitant and Sheriff of Kerry.

There are a surprising amount of old stone cottages and churches in the area without rooves subsequently left to ruin.

Having some time off from the animals gave us time to drive around the countryside without having to keep an eye on the time. We drove to Dingle via Castlegregory to maximise a drive along the coast. And what a drive it was! The beaches were stunning and the views speak for themselves.

Dingle is a popular tourist town and apparently gets very busy in the summer.

Hugging the coast is the absolutely breathtaking Slea Head Drive which had some daunting narrow passages where two-way traffic had to negotiate to pass each other.

Typical Irish humour I believe. This is the sign at a parking lot. I was trying to work out what 'Disc Parking' was. I went looking at the cars' dashboards looking for a disc with no luck. 

I stopped a local and asked her what the disc was. She said... 'This is the disk. You put it on the dashboard.' I'd call it a ticket...like it says on the TICKET...TWICE!

St Brendan the Navigator was from Fenit and is the patron saint of sailors. He was fearless in setting out into uncharted water and in uncertain circumstances. This statue sits on a piece of land jutting out from the Fenit harbour.

We leave in the early morning for a four-day sit just west of Dublin. It's a 3.5 hour drive and we need to be there by 9.30am. Hopefully the traffic isn't too busy.
