105. Cullenstown - Ireland - House and Pet Sitting - Episode 30

A couple of hours drive has brought us to Cullenstown on the southeastern coast of Ireland.

'Tootsie', or Mrs Toots, is the house nobility. Apart from waking us up in the middle of the night to go out, she is easy to look after as, well, she sleeps all day. 

 

Cullenstown is right on the coast and is comprised of about 30 dwellings. There is no infrastructure, so all shopping and cafes are a few kilometres away. We could actually walk it distance-wise but the roads are so narrow we'd be constantly looking out for traffic and farm vehicles from both directions. We've walked the local beach a few times as the weather has been kind. We even had a day over 20 degrees!

 The dwelling is part of a barn conversion split into about 8 units. Some garden beds in the courtyard would be nice. We're in the back left-hand corner.

One of the houses down the street has its own medieval ruin.

The Shell Cottage is right on the beach. (Who would have thought!) It is completely covered with shells.

We found two cafes of note in the area. One served the best coffee and the other had the tiniest loaf of bread I have ever seen. They call it soda bread, as bicarb is used as its rising agent, and is an Irish staple. Very yummy!

Another sit is complete with a happy cat, owner, and sitters. We now head back to Lucan to be with Archie again for four days before moving on to a 10-day sit in Baltinglass.
